Is the Gnome Mobile on Disney Plus

There are so. many. movies. on Disney+. Scrolling through the streaming service, you might even think it's every Disney movie EVER — and there are more coming soon!

Still, there are some shows and movies that aren't on Disney+…and some of them probably won't EVER be! We're taking a look at some of the Disney-owned content that will likely never be on Disney+, and why we're doomed to not see it streaming on our screens. Let's dive in!

Song of the South and Other Culturally-Dated Films

You probably aren't surprised by the fact that we'll likely never see Song of the Southcome to Disney+. This 1946 film is widely considered to have negative racial undertones due to the fact that many have perceived the storyline, set in the Reconstruction Era South, as a glorification of slavery. For that reason, the film won't be streaming on Disney+.

According to Deadline, Walt Disney Company Executive Chairman Bob Iger confirmed that the film would not be re-released on Disney+ or in other capacities as it is, "not appropriate in today's world."

ButSong of the Southisn't the only content that won't be seen on Disney's streaming service. Some of the Donald Duck Military Propaganda cartoons have been kept from the service for outdated depictions.

Also, Disney released a film in 1981 titled The Devil and Max Devlin. Besides including a trip to hell (which, based on one of our favorite dark rides in Disneyland, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Disney doesn't deem all that damaging), the film also features Bill Cosby in the role of the devil. Due to the events surrounding the end of Cosby's career, the title will likely never make it to Disney+.

Of course, not all the films on Disney+ are completely devoid of controversial scenes. You might remember the Asian stereotypes featured with Siamese cats in both Lady and the TrampandThe Aristocats.

When you pull up either of these flicks — or any others that have questionable cultural representations, such as with the crows inDumbo — you'll find a disclaimer: "This program is presented as originally created. It may contain outdated cultural depictions."

There's even a film that has had one culturally-outdated scene edited out. Toy Story 2has a series of animated "bloopers" to watch during the credits, one of which contained a joke about the "casting couch" trope coming from Prospector Pete. That mini-scene has been removed for the Disney+ release.

Tom Holland's Spider-ManMovies andThe Incredible Hulk

Some films are kept from Disney+ simply because Disney doesn't have the streaming rights. There are several movies that are coming soon to the server as Disney waits for their contracts to expire elsewhere. Still, there are a few movies that will never make it to the Disney service unless rights are renegotiated.

If you've ever tried to undergo a Marvel marathon using Disney+, you might notice that a few films are notably absent. The most recent Spider-Man movies, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, have yet to be added to the streaming service, despite being a part of the Disney-owned Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This is due to the fact that Sony still owns Spider-Man, and that includes streaming rights to the new movies. You might remember that Disney and Sony have had a bit of a tumultuous relationship in recent months that almost lead to Tom Holland's Spidey being pulled from future MCU flicks. Luckily, they reached an agreement.

Update! And now, Sony and Disney have reached a NEW agreement to allow Spider-Man to be added to Disney+ after all.

The same is not true for The Incredible Hulk . This film featured Edward Norton in the title role and is only loosely connected to the other Marvel movies with a brief cameo from Iron Man at the end. Still, Sony holds the rights, so one of the (technically) OG Marvel films won't be streaming.

Good Morning Vietnamand Other R-rated Flicks

You definitely won't see any R-rated flicks or TV-MA rated shows on Disney+ either! The platform confirmed to Forbes that streaming content would be restricted to PG-13 and TV-14 rated content and below.

This means we won't be seeing many R-rated flicks from Disney's Touchstone company come to the site. Even though Disney owns them, don't expect to see Good Morning Vietnam , Pretty Woman , or Starship Trooperspopping up under the Disney name thanks to their rating.

Similarly, there are SEVERAL Marvel TV shows that won't ever make it into the Marvel section of Disney+. You'll have to look elsewhere to catch episodes of Daredevil , Jessica Jones , The Punisher , Luke Cage , and The Defenders . It's all about the kid-friendly rating and image!

The good news is Disney also owns the streaming-service Hulu, which doesn't have the same content restrictions. So, it is a possibility that one day these films and shows could move there at least.

TheLizzie McGuire Rebootand Anything Too Mature

Finally, you won't see anything too adult on Disney+. We're not just talking R-rated and TV-MA content here. There are shows that even fit into the rating restrictions that have been pulled thanks to having content that was deemed too adult.

You may have heard about Disney censoring Daryl Hannah in Splash, despite its PG-rating? In a bizarre move, Daryl Hannah's bare bottom was covered with crudely rendered CGI effects to remove the nudity in the scene.

Perhaps the highest-profile case of something being "too adult" for Disney+ was the Lizzie McGuirereboot. News of the reboot took the internet by storm and news of its halt on progress did the same.

In a statement on her Instagram, Hilary Duff explained that Disney wanted the show to go in a more kid-friendly direction. Duff did not believe that Lizzie's adult story could be faithfully told under the PG umbrella.

She pleaded for a move to Hulu for the show. As of now, production is still on hold.

Other examples of Disney announcing content only to pull it when the subject matter is revealed to be too adult include Love, Simon and High Fidelity . The Love, Simon show is now set to be released on Hulu as Love, Victor in June.High Fidelity starring Zoë Kravitz was relocated to Hulu as the content appeared too mature prior to release.

So, you see? There are some shows and films that we'll never get to see on the streaming platform. The fact is, Disney+ is a kid-friendly platform and that image is super important to Disney.
